Two of our JPAL colleagues, Seema and Nikhil, just adopted a feisty little street puppy that they've named Mani Pandey (and Jeff's nicknamed him "Money," since that's what the pronunciation in Hindi sounds like, which has spawned spin-offs like "Paisa Puppy" and "Rupee Runt"). And Seema's started bringing him to the office. So now, paradoxically, we're actually able to get more work done because the puppies play furiously for 15 minutes and then collapse in exhaustion for 2-3 hours. No words can describe how hysterically adorable it is.
It's given me some insight into my pup's personality, the conclusion of which is that he's a total pansy. Mani is clearly top dog, despite being no more than a third of Lalu's size. The first day in the office (two days ago), Mani sprawled out on Lalu's bed, stole Lalu's bone, and was happily chewing away while Lalu tried desperately to spoon - to which Mani periodically growled and snapped. Now, they're getting along a lot better - they're both playing (rather than just Lalu stalking Mani), and they actually snuggle in Lalu's bed.
Some notes about the photos: the camouflage sweater is from my mom (it never fit Lalu, but it's a perfect fit for Mani)- good choice, mom. And the big wound on Mani's head is from a dog fight right before he was adopted, not from our docile pup. He's been given antibiotics, and he should heal up fine.
Now, the best part, the photos:
